Restored but
Modified antique radio
for
a BIG time radio star Bob Collins, morning man at WGN Radio, AM 720, in
Chicago. Unfortunately "Uncle Bobby" Passed away in a terrible airplane
accident before his time. Bob and Chris brought this to us
with the idea of having it modified for the "powder room" for guest as
they entered their new house. We tried to keep as much of the radio as
authentic as possible. Special provisions had to be made to allow for
the sink and plumbing while still allowing the radio to function. This
was achieved by adding 9 inches to the depth of the radio. We duplicated
molding to match the original and a new top was specially constructed to
prevent any moisture from entering the main cabinet which would have damaged
the original radio. The Speaker's grill work was also modified so the
unit could be mounted to the wall while still permitting access to the
plumbing.
